Earlier this year, ColorPop Art Lab was asked to create a live painting at the 23rd Annual Empty Bowls Hunger Awareness Dinner benefiting the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
The food bank wanted a piece of art that was simple enough to be completed in under three hours but bold and vibrant to be memorable. So, we did what we always do and sat down to brainstorm with our creative team and ultimately settled on the concept of a fruit bowl – fruit to reflect health and a full bowl to represent the mission of feeding the hungry in Tulsa and beyond.
After a busy few hours of dancing, chatting and painting for a curious audience, our live painter for the evening, who also happened to be our founder and Executive Creative Scott Taylor, finished the painting and the auction began. As the night concluded, the painting ended up going home with a lovely couple who recently moved to Tulsa and wanted a piece of local art to christen their new home. It now hangs in their breakfast nook – a perfect place for a fresh bowl of fruit.
Empty Bowls is Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s biggest fundraiser of the year, raising the equivalent of 2.6 million meals last year and growing its impact each year. ColorPop was honored to create the central piece for this event and support its important and ongoing mission by doing what we love most, creating art that inspires.
